Abstract


Evelyn O’Callaghanis Professor of West Indian literature of the department of Language, Linguistics and Literature at Cave Hill (Barbados). She has published Woman Version: Theoretical Approaches to West Indian Fiction by Women (London: Macmillan, 1993), and The Earliest Patriots (fiction) in 1986, and other articles and chapters on West Indian literature particularly by women. Her latest book Women Writing the West Indies 1804-1939: A Hot Place, Belonging to Us was published by Routledge in 2003. She is one of the editors of the Journal of West Indian Literature and serves on the advisory committees of Anthurium, les Carnets du Carpac, and the Journal of Postcolonial Writing, as well as being reader for the scholarly journals Callaloo and Ariel.
